THREE DAY QUOTE CHALLENGE

Day 3.

Last day today, but again I would like to thank simpledimple.wordpress.com for nominating me for this challenge.I am going to stay with Dale Carnegie and give you a little more information about him.

In 1911 he quit his sales job, to persue a lifelong dream of his to become a lecturer, However he ended up attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. He tried acting with a touring troupe, but that soon ended. He returned to New York, unemployed and broke and was living at the YMCA. In 1912 he persuaded the YMCA to allow him to teach Public Speaking. He got a classroom in return for 80% of the net proceeds. He quickly became a successful teacher capitalizing on the average American’s desire to have more self-confidence. In 1913 he published his first book, “Public Speaking & Influencing Men in Business” In 1926 he published his first collection “Public Speaking: A Practical Course for Business Men ” The book became a Best Seller, the author became rich. However , he lost all his savings in the market crash of 1929. Dale Carnegie learned to accept the worst can happen, then proceed to improve on the worst. His own experience was the source for his Best selling books.

TIME FLIES………………….

A very common problem, no time for anything, I think that most people would love a few more hours a day, I know I would, how about you ? we seem to be always trying to beat the clock…. when we are focusing on being calm, no stress, general well being that clock and our time table do not help. Everyone see’s time in a different way, if we are busy and occupied time flies, but if we sit and just wait for it to be bed time every day,  so where do we find the happy line, far to much or far to little….personally I prefer to be totally absorbed in what I am doing, than sitting around waiting for something to happen ! 

When we work outside the home, it can be more stressful, as so much is expected of us these days, due to cut backs in formacion and staff, and maybe a condition for the job is “Are you able to work under presssure ” what kind of a question is that, if you are saving life’s, well yes we can accept that, we realise that comes with the job, but if we work for example in an office, could it be that we are actually doing the job of maybe two or more people previously…We do now have “time management skills” (But, note you may be sent to this course during your lunch break) these courses are supposed to help you plan your day. However maybe they forget the motivation part,for most people whether working at home or outside the home, motivation is very important, when we have the motivation to manage, your time is more important than the mechanics of time management. You will be amazed what you can achieve through the power of motivation. It’s a case of mind over matter. 

Here are a few little tips to help you organise your time in a better way, both at work and in your personal life. And don’t forget to be full of motivation !!

As always, my favourite… A list, with everything you need to do,giving order to urgency and importance. You need to do a day list,a week and a month, on a seperate sheet place your long term projects,goals and dreams. On your day, weekly list, make it as realistic as possible, to be able to complete your tasks, when planning. Balance your routine to obtain a sense of achievement and put you in a positive mind set for the rest of the day, and don’t jump tasks until they are finished. On your larger project list, break it down into smaller jobs.Don’t forget you can delegate, nobody is indispensible!! this way you can concentrate on other tasks, get out of the habit of not being able to say No, only take on what you know you can handle, remember you will probaly have a family that you would like to spend time with,a relationship without time together will go no where, this could be your motivation, getting more time for yourself and your loved one’s, and don’t ever forget to note birthdays and important family dates. You also need to make time just for you, this is time for you to think, be calm maybe even meditate, take a nice bath, all these things will ease the stress away and set you up for the day or a good night’s sleep.Both are good for you, so you get to choose, mornings or evenings.

You know the saying “Fake it till you make it” you can actually instruct your brain, to put on a brave face, in this case a happy face, and it does work, for those that want to see this. But inside we know if we are happy or not, so why fake it, do we want to kid ourselves, I personally also think, that, people who know us really well, will also know and if they don’t , they should !! 

When we start to observe people, you will notice that happy people will think about what they want, then they follow up with action they can take to get it (how ?) They are known as positive people. Now, unhappy people think about what they don’t want, and who they can blame for their circumstances, do you know anyone like this ? unhappy people love to blame others, it is so easy to pass the book as they say! where as a simple I’m sorry, I made the wrong decision would be enough for people to see who you are, although I have to say, if it is to another unhappy person, little they can say or do will make a situation right, the only thing they all accomplish here is they show that they are unhappy, and normal reasoning will go out of the window. When people are happy, they are also more open to seeing, how a mistake can happen or whatever the situation may be and therefore find forgiveness easier than unhappy people. So generally speaking unhappy people are more negative.

Can someone be happy in an unhappy world ? Of course they can, because within the world, is their world, the family that they love and the direct people within that world, they cannot change the outer world that we all live in, we can’t stop wars, cruelty hardship that is out of our reach, many of us wish we could. We can do what is in our power with support, charity work etc., When we fake it we have to realise that we are, are own cause of happiness, the only person that can make you happy or unhappy is yourself, you and only you have the ability to create happiness for yourself. You may feel that this is not true, just think for a moment, we all have a choice… and that includes being happy or unhappy.

You all know that at times we have faked it.. we can smile even though we are hurting and we can feel happy even though we are unhappy………This is called strength ! We also know that we can run but we cannot hide, and we can be happy or unhappy anywhere in the world…it is a feeling within you, here again you have a choice. If it is forgiveness you need to give to be happy, do it, this is your life also, here you may want to remember the Universal Law of Allowance, you don’t have to agree you just need to accept. Many different things can make us happy or unhappy, but life is short, we never know how long or short that is going to be, and forgiveness for happiness is something we can all do now…today, tomorrow we just don’t know, if unhappiness is due to something like this, make yourself happy now while you can tomorrow anything can happen. images happy & unhappy masks

We need to stop looking for reasons to be unhappy, FOCUS on the things you do have, and these are the reasons you can be happy.  ….Happiness – Reality- Expectations….

Don’t fake it………..Make it happen…..you always have that choice !

 

 

 

 

 

THREE DAY QUOTE CHALLENGE

Day 2.

Once again I would like to thank simpledimplesite.wordpress.com for nominating me for this challenge. My choice has been quotes by Dale Carnegie.

As I mentioned yesterday, Dale Carnegie did not have a dream life as a younger person, as a young boy he would tend to the cows on his fathers farm at 4.00 am every morning, before going to school, his family did have financial problems, but he did manage to get through school and attend college.

His first job was selling correspondence courses to farmers. Then he worked as a salesman for Armour and Company, the largest slaughterhouse in Chicago. This company was notorious for low compensation and also for banning unionization. He was the most successful salesman within the company.

GET READY FOR MAGIC……

Start your day with magic…. take it with you all through the day,when you open your eyes in the morning, and have that great stretch and you realise you can move everything !! your still here on this wonderful planet…….that deserves a thank you, everything you do from this moment on will shape your day in how you go about it and your feelings….so let’s focus on everything positive, it’s easy if you start straight away, it takes no longer to do this, so don’t worry about getting ready, the children the coffee, everything goes as normal, except in your mind, remember to say thank you, we take a shower, we have water,shower gel shampoo, do we ever think to say thank you , we should…we make breakfast, coffee etc., there’s another thank you, some one some where has nothing.. we dress, we even have a choice of clothes, thank you again…. our children, family are healthy to start the day, thank you… All we have to do to start a great day is to have gratitude for everything we have……….we focus on that, we are positive and no negativity has been allowed in, our mind is occupied with good things, and this is what we take with us.

Think to maybe the morning, you knock your toe on the bed as you get out, then the shower runs cold, you remember you have no milk and you forgot to iron the outfit you wanted to wear, you can’t find your keys and the traffic is bad, by the time you arrive where you are going you are so stressed out….. your mood is not good to say the least. We are like little hamsters, we can get on our wheel confident calm together and are thankful for another day, and of we go round and round, but happy and at our pace, or, we jump on, the wheels already started without us, we stumble, grap the wheel and what a day…the wheel is spinning out of control and us as well. I know which I would prefer, and it is all down to us, I can hear some of you saying, oh but with children its different, it is not any different, you just have to organize yourself, if you know you need one hour to do what you need, don’t give yourself half of that time, it’s choice, that magic word. And the major magic word is thank you, when you wake with this intention you are focused, and there is no room for Mr Negativity to come calling. When you do this your whole day is different it’s magic, and you will see it happen.

All this takes is a little conversation with yourself, it’s not alot to do, to receive magic in your life. To show gratitude and say thank you from the moment you open your eyes, will not slow down your morning routine in anyway. But your day could be like no other, once you do this everyday it will be natural to you, and great things can happen, going out into the world with a positive mind set will only bring you positive people and positive events.

Eating disorders, it would be wrong of us to think that this condition only affects young girls and boys, but that is untrue, it can affect older people as well.

So what is an eating disorder, it is abnormal habits that negatively affect a person’s physical or mental health. They constantly worry about their body weight and shape, this habit can form in eating too much or not enough,

Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge………..They can affect male and female

Anorexia – The person suffering from this condition will be terrified of gaining weight, they refuse to keep a healthy weight size for their build, they will see an unrealistic body image and they limit their intake of food and see themselves as overweight. Anorexia – can bring on brain damage, multi-organ failure, bone loss, heart difficulties and infertility.

Bulimia – This involves binge eating, vomiting, excessive exercise laxatives and diuretics, they again worry about weight gain, they are very unhappy people, it all evolves around weight body and shape, but a person with Bulimia will keep it a secret, which eventually fills them with shame, guilt and lack of control. They can find themselves with gastrointestinal problems, severe hydration, again heart difficulties due to electrolyte imbalance.

Binge – They totally lose control over eating, they may suffer from obese and increased risks of other conditions. Cardiovascular disease and will also suffer from guilt, distress and embarrassment.

The exact Complex cause is unknown, but it can be associated to biological, physical and enviromental factors.

Irregular hormone functions, Nutritional deficiencies – Biological

Negative body image, Poor self esteem – Psychological

Dysfunctional family dynamics, Professional careers (ballet etc.,), Family chilhood trauma’s, Cultural or peer pressure, Stressful transitions or life changes – Enviromental.

Signs and sympton’s – Constant dieting, weight flactuations, unusual eating patterns, cutting food into tiny pieces and eating alone, fixation with food, depression, isolation and to be withdrawn .Treatment – This must be always with no exception under Professional Treatment Team, medical doctors, nutritionists, therapists and psychotherapy.

A person suffering with Binge eating for example, usually eat to cope with feelings, it is a nasty circle you feel bad about yourself and therfore eat to feel better, and for a little while you do. Then reality sinks in and you start to hate yourself for what you have done and that nasty circle starts all again. Anyone suffering from these conditions will know that we are dealing with a chronic disorder, it takes time to recover, its a day at a time, they will learn what triggers the eating or no eating, with professional help, they can’t do it alone, when you work through recovery, the fact that you can share your urge with someone is very important, when they do this, they automatically take the POWER away from themselves and pass it to someone else. It is a condition that can be treated, the symptons and consequences can be detrimental if not addressed. Eating disorders can be associated to other conditions, anxiety, substance abuse and depression. 

You need to live in the moment, not the past, leave it behind and concentrate on the future, and they must know and be reassured that they can do it. They must love who they are, take care of themselves and know a thousand times………THEY CAN DO IT !!

SENSORY EVOCATION EXERCISES

To achieve a successful exercise session, you need to set the scene a little beforehand. You need a nice quiet room, where you can sit on a chair, or cross legged on the floor if you are comfortable in this position, close your eyes, breathe out deeply with a large sigh, just let all your cares drift away, when you are ready, take your time, allow yourself to visualise …..

  1. A pen slowly writing your name on paper

  2. A beautiful sky with billowy clouds floating by…………..

  3. Various coloured shapes; a red triangle, a yellow circle, a blue square, a green five-pointed star.

Now focus on the sensation of touch

Stroke a cat or a dog, feel the texture of its coat and warm body

Put your hand in a bubbling fountain and experience the sensation of cool water dancing on your skin

Pick up a pine cone and feel its rough multi-layered form.

Stroke a feather

Roll an orange in your hands, feeling the dimpled texture of the rind.

Imagine the flavour, temperature and texture of :

Vanilla ice-cream

Marzipan

Strawberries and cream

A piece of dark chocolate

Black olives

Avocado

Now try to smell the following aromas:

Your favourite perfume or essential oil

Wood smoke

Seaweed

Freshly baked bread

Freshly brewed coffee

Peppermint

In your mind’s ear, listen to the following sounds:

Waves breaking on the sea shore

Children’s voices in a school playground

A voice calling your name

A bird singing

The sound of a gong, gradually fading into silence.

And finally, the kinesthetic sense, imagine that you are doing the following:

Swimming, experience the sensation of weigtlessness as your body glides through the water.

Dancing; feel the rhythm of the dance throughout your body.

Walking then running along a beach; feel every movement of your muscles.

Digging the garden or chopping wood

Moving to and fro on a garden swing.

Once you have perfected the sensory evocation exercises, you really will be ready to explore the art of guided imagery. This will not be overnight, some will need to practise more than others, this will depend on the flexibility of your imagination, the imagination is no different than our muscles, the more we use it the more powerful it will become, and this is just the beginning, please let me know how you get along with this, I would advise that maybe at the beginning you take a sense at a time, then finally link them together, when you feel confident enough to do the full exercise.

Depression – There are many people that do not realise that they are suffering from depression, it is not something that has pain attached to it, not physical , it can emotionally hurt in a big way, but, that does not mean we can see it or feel it, others are more likely to spot it before ourselves. When you suffer from depression you can feel anxious, have weight loss, can’t sleep, and feel worthless, this can go on for years until you recognise it. It is hard to discuss initially with your family , as you feel like a failure, but your family will be a great support for you, once it is out in the open, It is very important to talk about it and ask for help if you have any doubt about how you are feeling, depression is not something to be ashamed of, it’s you at this moment of time, and you are not a failure or anything else you may be feeling, you just need a little help and support. You will be understood and people can come through on the sunny side and see that life is great, just as it was once before. When you have someone near to you  who is suffering from depression, please be kind, considerate and understanding, they need a lot of love and care,and do not see things as you do at that moment. Be there for them as you would want them there for you. 

Forcing yourself to be happy or faking happiness is a warning sign of depression. You must create positive thoughts, every positive thought propels you in the right direction.

SENSORY PERCEPTION II

Taste is actually part of our smell, most of the time we need to smell before we can taste something. So we need a developed smell to have the ability to enjoy many of the fabulous flavours that are available to us. We can always encourage our taste buds, by trying different foods, fruit, has a wonderful range of different flavours sweet sour hard soft, just think of how many fruits you know. You can also try olives, cheese, croutons and dips, the choice is ever ending, chocolate, drinks, vegetables, this can also be a great game at parties, you will need a blindfold ,fun but adds a little knowledge !! I also believe its a great game for couples !! I’ll leave that one with you…………………If you are lucky enough to have an orchid or you are close to the countryside, or grow your own green’s, your relationship with nature is once again bonded, the benefits of planting, watering and watching it grow will give you increased pleasure as by simply buying in the supermarket, caring for plants, green’s nature in its pure essence is very rewarding to your nervous system, relaxation is guaranteed. If you are low on outside space, a good box is great for growing herbs or a little veg., you cannot compare the taste to home grown with any supermarket, terrace and window box garden’s are very much the trend today. Give it a try and feel the inner peace your little piece of nature can give you.

Touch – Do you know how many things you touch a day, we probaly take our sense of touch for granted, do we really feel what we touch,a similar game can be played with our sense of touch as with our food taste, try it ! We touch many different shapes, surfaces think before you touch things, we really don’t under normal circumstances, when was the last time you took a brown dry leaf in your hand and closed your hand, the leaf breaks into a thousand pieces we feel different textures with every movement of our hand, we squeeze lemons, collect peebles on the sea shore, collect feathers, we take cream and care for our skin, hair etc., but how much of all this do we really feel, I know we are all very busy, but take five, enjoy your sense of touch…….. its your’s , imagine if you did’nt have it.

Imagination is fluidity of mind. We can use are imagination to go from choas to wonderland. Did you ever or still watch the clouds and imagine what you can see in them, or we look into a tree and see faces. But we really should stretch the imagination as much as we can, we can see the future that we want, we can create our reality and slowly bring it to life, incorporate a little bit more everyday,when we can see in our minds what we truly want and hold it there, we can have it. We control our mind, our mind does not control us. Our imagination is available at any time on our personal request, so why do we not make more use of it, and truly create what we want in life. Conform should not be part of your vocabulary, ever, why should you conform if you do not have what you want, see it create it. If we use all our other sensory perceptions, we see, we hear , we smell, we taste, we touch and all those things are what we want to see,hear,smell,taste and touch, so why should our imagination be deprived of what it can do for us. Please give it an attentive thought.

A – Z CHALLENGE…………..

Coward – Why should anyone feel like a coward, most of the time, if we feel this way, it will be due to a fear, fobia that needs to be addressed. This is a time when your thoughts and beliefs affect the way you feel and behave, when there is more negative than positive. In this type of case you need to have a happy place, somewhere you can go in your mind, where you feel happy and safe, this can be an imaginery place or a real memory, practice going there, when you have a moment of feeling a coward, take your thoughts directly to your happy and safe place, after a time with practice, you will do this automatically and what gives you the feeling of being a coward, will start to fade away.

SENSORY PERCEPTION…….

How often do we use our sensory perception, fully use ? In my recent posts I have written about stress and the power of natural healing, I am going to continue this week to open us up to more ways to find relaxation and awareness , we really do not need to go out into the jungle to experience transformation and the power of nature in healing. We just really need to improve our ability to look, listen, smell, taste, touch, and imagine, when we do this anywhere we may be, a local park, village garden etc, can be a totally wonderful experience. To achieve this, it is like anything else, practice brings us to perfection of these skills.

VISION

When you are out and about in a green zone, countryside, park or garden try to focus on one plant, take in the details of its shape colour and texture, once you feel that you have taken in every aspect of this plant, take a look around it, what lies behind it, the side, the front, then you will notice the harmony in which it lies with other plants and trees, the grass everything around it, its exactly this, see your plant, as a whole. When you learn to appreciate this complete unit, you will also have the ability to see what you previously could not see, this is how an artist would see things. Once you have done this you will notice this plant wherever you go, it will jump out at you where as before you would not of noticed it, this will give a whole new meaning to your “nature” world. 

HEARING

Don’t you just love the rain, not when your in it, getting wet, but when you are indoors, or under shelter, and the rain comes down,try this, close your eyes and listen. Try to drift away with the rain, if your indoors this may be easier to listen to, of course failing rain you can seek out moving water, a stream, a flowing river even a waterfall, waves crashing on rocks. On a windy day, the leaves in a tree make a wonderful noise, but have you ever really listened, do you stop to take it in, probaly not, we are so busy with other things,but if we stopped from time to time to listen to those leaves, that water, or the birds, a busy busy bee, this can bring you so much calm, which will reduce your stress level. We live in such a loud world, we easily don’t really hear the natural sounds, just traffic and machines !! All these noises create tension, where as the sounds of nature will fill us with inner stillness and clarity, we find peace. There is a great difference between hearing and listening .

SMELL

Do you have a sensitive nose or not, all plants have a odour, and an aromatic plant more, and this can depend on weather conditions season and even the time of day. These conditions will define the strength of the fragance, then of course we have night scented flowers such as Jasmine honeysuckle, most aromatic plants smell best at midday, also the fragance is stronger during the summer hot months, and of course the soil has a smell of its own when warm and moist. What you need to know is that you should never smell more than three things at any given time, be it plants, perfume etc., after this the smells will combine and you will not be able to smell any correctly. Before you begin, breathe slowly and deeply, allowing yourself to relax into a receptive state. If you are smelling oils or perfume, try to put the fragance on a sheet of blotting paper and wave it just below your nose. Strangely many people have an emotional response to scent smells, this is due to most scents will remind us of a fond memory, or we find ourselves thinking it reminds us of something but we just can’t put our finger on it. The next time you smell a fragant plant or oil, remember what the scent makes you think of. It could be something you would like to remember, it creates an image that you would like to repeat. It makes you feel calm. Natural scents like walking in a forest after the rain, can take your stress levels down very quickly, the use of burners are used more and more during yoga, therapy, relaxation etc., the power of smell can be extremley beneficial to reducing your stress and obtaining well being.
