STRESS – WORK & EMAILS

Just in the UK alone in recent years 37% of all cases of illness related to work are stress related and up to 45% of time lost due to ill health also.
When you feel that all you do is go to and from work, and visit the doctor, it is time to link the missing dots and realise you are under great stress and pressure………….are you always ill, colds flu headaches etc., just always something that stops you from being 100% , well, now is the time to react and do something about it, a small little change in your activities even the smallest of physical activites can change the ever turning circle you are living in. These changes can bring big positive changes into your life.

You can start by changing your timetable, when you try to fit to much into one day, things will go wrong, can you wear size 4 shoes when you usually wear a 6……….!! Your days are the same you can only fit so much in………… So reaarange your timetable and spice it up a bit, variety is the spice of life remember, if you keep the same things day in day out boredom and stress can set in , and dont forget your break time, catch your breath and a welcome cup of coffee, to much workload can only bring you more stress depression and anxiety.
When problems arrive, solve them as soon as possible, dont let them linger it is no good for you to worry day after day if you need to resolve something whether it be with your boss, client or colleage……………I would also strongly advise you to eat away from your desk and if you can eat away from the building even better, working with one hand and eating with the other is a no no, dont be taken in by the gossip girls, make friends with who you connect with most, the gossip section is more stress and time consuming…..and always try to leave on time, it is so easy to stay on a little to finish something in between, but it is important that you respect your personal time, because if you dont other wont either, and you need to control that, no one else.
You have to remember that it is not only people that work who get stressed,in fact survey’s prove that men and omen who stay at home have more stress that those that work outside the home, and most women feel better and like to work outside of the home, there is no defined rule why this is, but I would personally imagine it is due to wearing many hats in the home, doing everything and more, where as within your work place generally you would have one job with one responsiblity. Again, just because you are at home, it does not mean you can’t make a list, lists are one of my favourite things, they are a great help, they help you to find balance within yourself and keeps everything on schedule. Always remember your friends spend time with them at the weekends, the weekend demands are different and more relaxed , people are not critical of your porformance things are more laid back. Enjoy your free time, make it a stress free zone !!

STRESS DOWNLOAD……..

It is a known fact that most doctor’s can state that 75% of their patients are affected by stress, they feel overwhelmed or unable to cope with general life situations , Stress is a number one factor affecting people of today…..It can hide behind many things, lack of energy stomach problems anxiety, lack of libido memory problems and the inability to concentrate, so many of us are on a hamster wheel and can just not get of, they wake they sleep.

You may be wondering how this ever started, where when how ? all questions that are difficult to answer, but let’s try to break it down and let’s start with the morning, ” routine ” look no further than your wonderful morning routine !! what goes on during this so called routine, how much is a routine or just sheer automatic pilot havoc……this is where you recieve your first dose of stress, the days of lovely alarm clocks have gone, so maybe you already wake with the modern technology of today, our smart phone!! the smart phone really kicks in and the news starts to stream into our nely started day,most of which is bad news……….we could listen to it later, first thing can be a bit strong…your partner gets grumpy because the ping ping is continuous, you also get grumpy and don’t let’s forget this is all before we are showered or dressed and probaly for sure before the coffer surge you so desperately are seeking…….. why not try to reduce this straight of the bat, go back to a lovely little alarm clock, that sits neatly on your bedside table, instead of cables and pings…this also takes away other human contact and the dreadful news, leave your phone downstairs or in another room, once your friends and colleagues know they will not even consider calling you at 6.30 in the morning, start to set your little alarm a little earlier every day simply to introduce movement,meditation and mindfulness to start your day with, much more rewarding than the previous way. taking those few mins for breathing incorporating yourself into the world, focus on all your senses and then gently add a little movement , simple stretch work and get into a beautiful relaxed mood for the day ahead, you are positive and have good thoughts. A golden tip here is if you are sharing your life with someone special, even if it is your dog, nearly leave your home without a little contact, a loving touch always seals that perfect day. It also reduces anxiety and stress hormones.

Here comes your second dose of stress for the day, and probably still before 9 a.m. you have to get to work or drop the children or even collect your mother etc., so, what does that journey or commute mean to you, are you crushed shoulder to shoulder in a train/bus etc., sat bumper to bumper in your car, which ever of these scenarios you have, you will start to feel the anxiety on the rise, you become more and more anxious , some of this anxiety you can reduce, not all and at times not by much, but give it a try, the first thing would be to leave home a little earlier, it may avoid that shoulder to shoulder or bumper to bumper ! Change your form of transport or take a different route it may take a little longer but it would relieve a little stress. Take this time, which you may feel is wasted into your time, enjoy it more, by maybe listening to a relaxation tape, even learn a new language, don’t check emails you can even read or listen to a book all these things would give you more happiness and a better start to the day.

NEW YEAR & CHANGE…..

Have these past holidays been different for you, maybe your partner is no longer around or your children are making new families of their own, whatever the difference, do any of us like change or do we fear it ? At times it is hard to imagine ever being happy again at festive times because of the memories we keep deep inside, but time is a great healer as they say and with a little effort all round, things can become special again.
When you have grown up in a busy happy household, where Christmas and the New Year took on great importance, so much food and gifts, laughter and love, friends coming and going, it is quite frightening to think of things being a different way, you still expect excited little children, carols being sung and little lights everyhere and sadly this is not the case, but other beautiful things can take place there , you can experience events and social gatherings that children could not of been part of, sofistication can enter your home and your life, exceptional food, still traditional but with that extra sassiness that generally little fingers don’t mix well with…….even our decorations can take on a new style, …………………………………..So, new year, new changes, it can at times have been a complete upheaval leading up to the event, and at times you even want to put enough distance between the place of events and yourself………..but that is not always the answer, you may move home (in the event of losing your partner) but your heart moves with you, so you might as well stay if you are basically happy there, and let hopefully your heart heal in familiar surroundings ………this time can be very sad for most people but sadly it has to be gone through, there is no magic spell or magic wand we can use.
When this situation appears on your horizon you have to feel your way through new christmas or festive arrangements, there are no golden rules here either you just have to use common sense and do your best .
After a period of time, as I mentioned before, what ever the reason your situation has changed, things will get better………..so if you have just passed an important date in your life or are going to in the near future, accept that it is going to feel strange different maybe even awkard, your emotions will be running high and are felt more at these difficult times, give yourself a break not everything is your responsibility or fault, take it easy, things will get better, things change so always stay open to new ideas , and always if children are involved shield them from adult stupid animosity !! it is not their fault, never has been and never will be……………..
Don’t for what ever reason feel resentful , during these times , always think and act in positivity and don’t forget about you, you are important.

ARE YOU AFRAID TO BE ALONE…….

Do you love yourself enough to go it alone, or are you afraid of taking those steps without others.
What we need to face or realise when we are on the bottom step and feel we can go no further down, when we hit rock bottom ……..we always have ourselves, and it is you that has to be repaired first, we are so tempted to think of all our baggage,that we take ever where with us, which is normal. You are no good to anyone, not even yourself we love are friends and family and want the best for them, but, at times we do not see what is the best………….when you are not happy or satisfied with yourself or your results, you are no good to anyone, you have to make the decision to start out again, to reshuffle your cards and to get back into life, but you have to do this alone, when you accomplish this, you can re-track and take others with you, on your new great journey called life, you want them to be part of it, and they also want to be part of you, but first you sort yourself out then you can help others, it cannot be done all at the same time.
They can be your why, which will keep you going on your road to recovery, but it is important that you do it alone, it is the only way, you need to come to terms with the new you, before you introduce yourself once again to your friends and family, feeling well balanced and strong. This may all seem strange to you, but if you are trying to put yourself together again, for whatever reason, just imagine trying to do it, with the worry and concern of your responsibilities (family & friends) discovering your new self is a one man show, it is deep and revealing and you need to be happy with it, not anyone else, this is also important to put your feelings and opinions first.
