CONCENTRATION – has been defined as “The ability to direct one’s thinking in whatever direction one would intend ”
We all have the ability to concentrate some of the time, but at other times it totally escape’s us, our mind starts to wander, it races to one place and then other, from one subject to the next, Concentration needs practise, it is a skill you can learn, I am touching this subject today as I have recently published blogs regarding, our ability to think and our imagination, I have received many emails regarding the problems you are crossing regarding this, so I thought this might help a little in that direction, (email@example.com) this email is open to any question you may have, I am always pleased to hear from you,
The art of concentration depends on many factors,
The ability to take on the task at hand,the emotional state you are in, your commitment,your psychological state.
You need the commitment, this has to be a personal commitment that you feel very strongly about, you can’t play at this or half do it, it has to be a true commitment of value to you, this will give you the ability to continue on the skill of concentration. The motivation you achieve from this will keep you on track, to obtain complete concentration you need to repeat,repeat,repeat, it is a skill you can learn.There is no place for anxiety or worries here, if you have this you will not obtain the concentration you wish. This is when a programmed worry time, can work for you, we have touched this in a previous blog, if we allocate a certain time of the day for our “anxiety/worry time” if during our day, anxiety appears for what ever you have on your mind, STOP don’t give it time, at that moment, tell yourself the time you have allocated, and when this allocated time come’s round, let all the anxiety/worries flow freely think about them,try to find your solutions and then close that time you have designated yourself. Your psychological/emotional state also plays a very important role in concentration, if you hold good self-esteem, confidence in yourself you will have a positive outlook and be in a good positive frame of mind, negativity will not lead you to good concentration. The place where you choose to concentrate is also very important (while learning the skill of concentration) if it is to hot or to cold,if it is noisy,uncomfortable for you to relax,to bright to dark……all these factors will give reason for your mind to wander, the place you choose must be perfect for you, feel comfortable in all aspects, once you have learnt the skill, the art of concentration, you will be able to do it, when and where you choose, the middle of a railway station if you wish, you will have the ability to switch of to the outside world and concentrate on what ever you feel fit, this can be learned, like anything else, it is a question of repetition like anything else we learn, it will become very natural to concentrate, the same as writing your name.
