Old-Fashioned 1

Many things have changed since we washed our clothes with animal fat soap, the dishes with ash and our teeth with bicarbonate of soda….. Our domestic chores and personal hygiene are much simpler and more pleasant than before, but, they are now more toxic , if you are concerned exposing your family to these new toxins we can go back in time ………………………

The perfume in our home……… a few little sticks of cinnamon and a little lavender  will be sufficient to perfume a small area, also wardrobes and drawers, for a bigger area we can use an orange and a bag of gloves, pinch the gloves into the orange, the more gloves you place the stronger the fragrance will be.

Grease and whitening……………Limon is fabulous for removing grease and keeping  things nice and white, the juice is also excellent for removing stains and dirt. Mix with hot water, and it will help to remove tea and coffee stains from any cup.

Glass and windows………..If you don’t wish to use the common window cleaner a good alternative is vinegar, again mix with  water, wet the cloth you will be using and then dry the window, mirror or glass object you have cleaned with news paper, they will be perfect.

Baths and bathroom tiles……….the bath, wash basin and tiles can be a major place for collecting lime scale and the remains of soap. To get everything back to normal and shinning like new, try bicarbonate which is soft and will not leave any scratches, wet with your cloth, sprinkle with bicarbonate and rub clean, rinse well and dry, if you have a difficult tap etc., make a paste with the bicarbonate and leave for a few minutes to work then remove.

Metal cleaning….especially silver, place a piece of aluminium paper in a glass bowl, place the objects you wish to clean inside and place a good handful of salt and cover with hot water, leave until the water goes cold, rinse the objects and polish them with a soft cloth, this also works very well on silver jewellery.
